authorities. They have moreover taken over many of their

old agencies for German firms, especially that for the well- known Badische Anilin and Soda Fabrik, all of which proves that the German interests behind the firm are still

paramount.

According to the Directory for 1914, Messrs. J. F. C. Jebsen and J. H. Jessen resided at Hamburg.

I suggest therefore that enquiry be made from His Britannic

Majesty's representative at that port, with a view to ascertaining whether there was any other German capital in

the firm of Jebsen and Jessen.

The liquidators of the Hongkong branch did

not state in their report who were the partners. But in

answer to an enquiry they have informed the Custodian that

they believe that the claimants were partners in the firm

liquidated by them, and that they remember seeing a deed of

partnership between the claimants. But on the 31st October, 1914, in the first balance sheet prepared by the liquidators

after taking over, the capital account only contained the

names of J. Jebsen and H. Jessen for equal shares; these

names correspond with those given in the 1914 Directory.
